Russell Grant, the astrologer and former *Strictly Come Dancing* contestant, has recently shared an update with his followers after experiencing a concerning health scare. 

Known for his bubbly personality and stint on the 2011 series of the BBC dance competition, 

Russell faced a worrying eye condition earlier this week that led him to seek immediate medical attention.

The 72-year-old took to social media to inform his fans about the incident, explaining how he woke up one morning to find “strange cottony things floating” in his left eye. 

Concerned, he quickly visited the opticians for a series of tests. Following further examinations, he was rushed to Blackpool Hospital’s eye clinic, 

where doctors confirmed that he had a bleed behind his eye. 

Fortunately, there was no retinal damage, but the medical professionals told him that he would have to get used to the floaters, as there is no cure for this condition. Russell shared the details of his visit on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Monday: I woke with strange cottony things floating in my left eye. Headed to the opticians for tests. Next day @BlackpoolHosp called: day after into the eye clinic. Result: I had a bleed behind my eye but no retinal damage but it seems I have to befriend the floater! No cure.”

This health scare comes after Russell’s ongoing battle with a brain tumour, which he disclosed in March 2023. The star has been keeping fans updated on his health journey, and his recent posts reflect his resilience in facing these challenges. In June 2023, Russell shared that he might have developed diabetes again due to the steroids he has been taking after his pituitary brain tumour operation. He wrote, “Morning. The latest news on my post pituitary brain tumour operation is the possibility I have returned to being diabetic. I was once Type 2 but controlled it by diet. However, it’s possible taking so many steroids to keep me going they’ve increased my blood sugar.” This announcement sparked an outpouring of support from his dedicated fans, who have rallied around him during this difficult time.

Reflecting on his health journey and the challenges he’s faced, Russell also took time to remember his unforgettable experience on *Strictly Come Dancing* over a decade ago. In 2011, he became a fan favorite when he took part in the BBC dance competition, a decision that, at the time, seemed daunting to him. Russell was initially hesitant to join the show, feeling too old and lacking in confidence. He remembered sitting at home in North Wales when the invitation came to participate in *Strictly*. “I said no, I was too old. I didn’t have the confidence, and I didn’t believe in myself enough. I wanted to stay in my comfort zone, which was astrology then,” he confessed. However, it was his mother’s encouragement that eventually convinced him to take the leap. His mum, a devoted *Strictly* fan, insisted that he would regret not seizing the opportunity. Russell said, “My mum was wedded to *Strictly*, bless her. She told me I had to go in and do it or I’d regret it for the rest of my life.”

Russell embraced his mother’s advice and joined the show, a decision he later celebrated as life-changing. “We don’t want to have regrets – think of Edith Piaf, ‘Je Ne Regrette Rien,’” he reflected, quoting the famous French singer’s iconic song. He admitted that the experience on *Strictly* taught him to step outside of his comfort zone and embrace new challenges, no matter his age. “I thank God *Strictly* came into my life. It taught me that if you really want to do something, just do it. I was 60 when I did it, and once I’d done it, I thought, ‘Why the hell couldn’t I have done it when I was 30?!’”

One of the most memorable moments from his time on the show was when he was shot out of a cannon during a performance. Reflecting on the excitement of the moment, Russell recalled, “The funniest thing with that is, there I was, turning things down, not thinking I could do them, but with the cannon, I couldn’t wait to do it. In fact, I demanded to rehearse it six times!” His enthusiasm and determination left a lasting impression on *Strictly* fans and further solidified his place in the hearts of viewers.
