Football fans received encouraging news this week as Lionel Messi joined full team training with Inter Miami FC. 

The Argentine superstar’s participation in full group sessions represents another milestone in his recovery 

from an ankle injury sustained during Argentina’s Copa America triumph over Colombia in July.

Messi has been steadily working his way back to full fitness after limping off in the second half of the final with pain in his right ankle. 

While an official timeline has not been confirmed, his inclusion in full team drills with Inter Miami bodes well for a potential return to competitive action in the near future.

The 35-year-old forward has been sidelined for over six weeks now. His club has maintained a cautious approach throughout, keen not to rush his comeback. 

With Inter Miami enjoying success at the top of the MLS standings, there is no need to take unnecessary risks with Messi either.

Teammates spoke positively about seeing Messi back on the training pitch. Goalkeeper Drake Callender stated “To see him on the field is great. I know he’s been putting in the work every day.” Messi’s leadership and quality will be a huge boost whenever he makes his long awaited comeback.

With the transfer window now closed, all focus turns to Messi’s recovery. Fans will be hopeful of seeing him feature again before the end of the regular season as Inter Miami aim to defend their trophy and claim a postseason prize in 2024.
