“What I found really difficult was having to go out and answer questions that I didn’t really have much control over. 

Being in a film and having journalists ask me, ‘How does this fit into your perspective?’. 

It’s hard to be the face or spokesperson for something that I wasn’t directly involved in,’” she explained.

As the star of a film, the star felt uncomfortable and constrained by having to accept and smile at all criticism even though she had no knowledge or control over it.

The actress also added: “I was held accountable in a way that I started to feel really frustrated about, because I had no say. And I started to realize that I only wanted to be held accountable for things that if someone were to criticize me for it, I could say: ‘Yeah, I was wrong, it was my decision, I should have done better.’”

After finishing the Harry Potter series, Emma Watson continued to star in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, Beauty and the Beast, The Circle, Little Women. Of which, Little Women, the last film Emma Watson starred in in 2018, won six Oscar nominations.

During After taking a break from acting, the Harry Potter star has ventured into writing and directing. Late last year, the actress planned and directed an ad campaign for Italian luxury brand Prada. “People always told me I should get involved in directing and producing, even when I was doing Harry Potter.”

Despite not acting for nearly five years, the actress has said she is likely to return to the screen. “Absolutely. But I’m happy to wait for the right thing to come along. I love what I do. It’s about finding a way to pursue this job without having to put on different disguises to please others. I don’t want to be a robot anymore.”
