the former soccer star, 49, admitted that he can’t shake his competitive edge — even when competing in light-hearted games against his kids.
“I think as an athlete you always want to win,” Beckham, who shares sons Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21 and Cruz, 19, and daughter Harper, 13,
with wife Victoria Beckham, said at the Chicago event on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
“You can’t shake the competitiveness, not even in a talk show,” Evans replied, referring to Beckham’s new episode of Hot Ones.
“Never. Never,” the dad of four and Stella Artois ambassador urged. “I’m the same with my kids. Even when we play table tennis, I want to win. I love my kids, but I want to win.”
Later in the duo’s quick Q&A, Beckham revealed to Evans who he’d nominate to participate in the Hot Ones challenge next. “I suppose I’d love my kids to do it,” he shared, adding, “just purely because they love everything that you do.”
Beckham and his wife Victoria, 50, recently became empty nesters. The fashion designer opened up about this “next chapter” of their lives when speaking with Nicole Kidman for a Vogue Australia feature published on Aug. 2.
“We woke up this morning and said, ‘We’re so proud of the kids, they’re such great, kind, sweet, humble, funny, hardworking young adults,’ ” Victoria recalled about a conversation with Beckham.
“Getting that balance is very difficult. I struggled with that a lot when the children were younger. We’ve never had an enormous amount of staff, if you like,” she continued. “We do have nannies and we do have our parents, who have been amazing. But you do feel like you’re juggling.”
The proud mom added, “Being a wife, mum and fulfilling your dreams in regards to what your passions are, and what you love to do in regards to work, was enough. But then the kids get older and they flee the nest and have their own passions. Now myself and David are in the next chapter.”
“Even Harper, who is 13, has her friendship group, she loves to do her own thing, and we’re super, super close but it definitely feels like that next chapter of our lives together.”
