The legal battle surrounding the production of It Ends With Us escalated this week, 

with Blake Lively and her legal team firing back at a $400 million defamation and extortion lawsuit filed by Justin Baldoni. 

The lawsuit, which also names Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds, stems from allegations of creative interference, personal conflicts, 

and a larger feud between the two stars over the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel.

Lively’s Legal Team Denounces Baldoni’s Claims

On Thursday, Lively’s attorneys responded to the lawsuit in a statement to Page Six, characterizing it as part of a calculated effort to discredit her. 

“This latest lawsuit from Justin Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios, and its associates is another chapter in the abuser playbook,” the statement began.

“This is an age-old story: A woman speaks up with concrete evidence of sexual harassment and retaliation, and the abuser attempts to turn the tables on the victim.”

The legal team went on to accuse Baldoni and his associates of employing tactics commonly referred to as DARVO: Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender. They alleged that Baldoni’s claims are a form of retaliation against Lively for her earlier sexual harassment complaint, filed in December 2024.

Allegations of Retaliation and Misrepresentation

Lively’s attorneys stated that Baldoni’s lawsuit aims to distract the public from the sexual harassment allegations she has made. “They are trying to shift the narrative to Ms. Lively by falsely claiming that she seized creative control and alienated the cast from Mr. Baldoni,” the statement read.

The team argued that evidence would demonstrate Lively acted professionally, citing instances where Sony Pictures supported her creative contributions, including script revisions. According to Lively’s team, Sony chose her version of the film, which became a “resounding success.”

They also accused Baldoni of deflecting blame by using harmful stereotypes, such as claiming Lively provoked harassment. “The strategy of attacking the woman is desperate, does not refute the evidence in Ms. Lively’s complaint, and it will fail,” her legal team asserted.

Baldoni’s Lawsuit Adds New Layers to Feud

Earlier in the day, Baldoni, who stars alongside Lively in It Ends With Us and also directed the film, filed a bombshell lawsuit accusing her of overstepping boundaries in the production process. He alleged that Lively used her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and her close friend Taylor Swift to pressure him into accepting her rewrites of key scenes, particularly a pivotal rooftop moment between their characters.

Baldoni claimed he was invited to the couple’s penthouse in New York City, where Swift was also present. He alleges that Reynolds and Swift praised Lively’s script changes during the meeting, making him feel coerced into approving them.

“The message could not have been clearer,” the lawsuit stated. “Baldoni was not just dealing with Lively but also her ‘dragons’—two of the most influential and wealthy celebrities in the world.”

The lawsuit also accuses Lively of taking control of her character’s wardrobe and making derogatory remarks toward Baldoni, including a suggestion that he get a nose job.

Sexual Harassment Allegations Resurface

Lively’s December 2024 complaint included allegations that Baldoni created a hostile work environment. She accused him of making inappropriate comments, including discussing his past struggles with porn addiction. Baldoni denies these claims, alleging Lively initiated the discussion.

Additionally, Lively accused Baldoni of entering her trailer without consent while she was breastfeeding. Baldoni refuted this, claiming she “freely breastfed in front of him during meetings.”

Tensions with Ryan Reynolds

The lawsuit also includes allegations against Ryan Reynolds. Baldoni claimed Reynolds reprimanded him during a cast meeting, accusing him of fat-shaming Lively. According to Baldoni, Reynolds’ anger left a Sony representative “shocked.”
