The new four-part Netflix docuseries, Beckham, walks viewers through the early life and career of David Beckham, as well as how, exactly, he became a global superstar.

But while the series features a bunch of rosy details about David’s life, including the fact that 

he became a breakout soccer player as a teen and played in some pretty epic games over his career, it also covers his alleged affair with a woman named Rebecca Loos.

In the docuseries, for the first time ever, Victoria Beckham addresses the rumors, 

saying that it marked the “hardest period for us because it felt like the world was against us,”per the Billboard.

But who is Rebecca Loos and did she actually have an affair with David Beckham? Here’s the deal, according to everyone involved.

Did David Beckham really have an affair?

In 2004, Rebecca—who was David and Victoria’s personal assistant—publicly claimed that she had a four-month affair with David after he relocated to Spain to play for Real Madrid.

David denied the allegations at the time, and he and Victoria continue to deny them to this day. They were also never corroborated in the media. Rebecca was fired from her post.

“During the past few months, I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life. … The simple truth is that I am very happily married,” David said in a statement obtained by Today at the time. “[I] have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change these facts.”

Later, David opened up about the situation in his docuseries.

“I don’t know how we got through it, in all honesty,” he said, per Marie Claire. “Victoria is everything to me—to see her hurt was incredibly difficult. But we’re fighters, and at that time we needed to fight for each other. We needed to fight for our family. And what we had was worth fighting for.”

Who is Rebecca Loos?

Rebecca, who is Dutch, is a former glamour model and the ex-personal assistant to Victoria and David Beckham. She has since gone on to appear in several reality TV shows.

Fun fact: Rebecca is also second cousins with Piers Morgan, who was working at the British tabloid, The Mirror, at the time.

“Two days into the David Beckham/Rebecca Loos scandal, I discovered she was my second cousin,” Piers told The Independent. “And I had even apparently danced with her at a family wedding in Madrid. Despite this, she refused to switch camps from the News of the World and give the Mirror her story.”

She told an outlet that she and David had an affair.

In 2004, several sexually explicit text messages that were reportedly sent between David and Rebecca, then 26, were published in the News of the World, per Today.

“I couldn’t wait to be alone with him and I knew he felt the same,” Rebecca told Sky TV, per the Daily Mail, speaking about their first time hooking up. “We dropped off the other two people in the car and starting kissing quite passionately all the way back to the hotel. It was like magnets, pretty amazing.”

After that, Rebecca said that David would text her up to 30 minutes a day. While the Beckhams denied this happened, a few months later, two more women, Celina Laurie and Sarah Marbeck, said they had an affair with David. Marbeck claimed they got together in 2001 when he was with Manchester United, inviting her to his hotel room for sex. Celina, on the other hand, claimed they got together in 2002, per Marie Claire.

“It was the most unhappy I have ever been in my entire life,” Victoria says in the documentary.

What shows has Rebecca been on?

Rebecca has appeared on several reality shows since coming forward with her allegations of an affair. Those include Celebrity Love Island, Big Brother, X Factor, and Treasure Island, according to IMDB.

Yes. Rebecca is currently married to a Norwegian doctor named Sven Christjar Skaiaa.

The two met after the affair news cycle had blown over, and they got married in a little ceremony in August of 2012, IMDB says. They also now have two children together: Magnus, 13, and Liam, 10.

Where is Rebecca Loos now?

Rebecca currently lives in Norway with her husband.

“Sven is an outdoor man and mountain lover and was not prepared to move to London, so it was I who moved to Norway so we could bring our son up together,” she told The Sun in 2018. “I thought to myself that if it doesn’t work out in Norway I can always move back to London. That was 10 years ago.”
