Sam Thompson has broken his silence on his breakup with Zara McDermott, hinting that he may not be the one at fault for their split.

During an appearance on Love Island’s Morning After podcast, Sam was asked whether he would ever date someone his family didn’t approve of. 

His response offered an interesting insight into how his relationships are perceived within his close-knit family.

“Absolutely not,” Sam replied. “No chance. I live next to my sister, and I’m very lucky that my sister has liked all my girlfriends, which is great.”

He then added that whenever he goes through a breakup, his sister—Made In Chelsea star Louise Thompson—immediately assumes he is to blame.

“Most of the time when we break up, it is my fault in my sister’s eyes. My sister will look at me and go, ‘What have you done?’ every time. And I’ll be like, ‘It’s not even me!’”

Though Sam didn’t directly confirm the reason behind his and Zara’s split, his remarks strongly suggest that he believes he wasn’t the cause of the breakup.

Pete Wicks Teases Sam Over Post-Breakup ‘Tears’

Sam’s best friend and podcast co-host, Pete Wicks, didn’t hold back when addressing the breakup on their Staying Relevant podcast. Pete jokingly suggested that Sam had been “crying” over Zara since their separation.

“Sam’s has mostly consisted of crying, but there have been other things that have happened,” Pete quipped, poking fun at his friend’s heartbreak.

Sam laughed awkwardly before Pete continued teasing him about their recent appearance on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show. The ex-couple had taken part in the Midnight Gameshow segment before their split, which made for an uncomfortable watch when the episode aired after their breakup.

McIntyre later admitted that the surprise almost didn’t happen because the pair had locked their bedroom door. He told viewers, “They were terrified as I had to knock on the door – but thankfully they then had the time of their lives.”
