King Charles had a private meeting with David Beckham, just after he allegedly turned down an opportunity to see Prince Harry due to his busy schedule.
After his doctors confirmed that The King could focus on getting back to a fuller diary, the King did not have the opportunity to see his younger son,
who jetted into London on Tuesday, in preparation of his appearance at St Paul’s Cathedral the next day to celebrate the Invictus Games.
Speaking about the situation, Harry’s spokesperson revealed: “In response to the many inquiries
and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.”
“The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”
During Harry’s brief visit to the UK, it emerged that the King held a meeting with former pro-footballer David Beckham regarding his charitable foundation. The pair reportedly spent quality time together at King’s Highgrove residence in Gloucestershire.
Although no images were released of this private meeting, a source close to the King confirmed to The Sun that the pair did indeed catch up.
Over the years, David Beckham has rubbed shoulders with both Harry and the King on numerous occasions in the past, even serving as an Invictus Games ambassador.
However, this time, the King missed the chance to reunite with the Duke of Sussex, who has since set off to Nigeria alongside wife Meghan Markle, to promote the games.
Earlier this year, Harry put to rest any speculation about meeting his father during his brief visit, confirming that a catch-up wouldn’t be possible due to the King’s “full schedule”.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk that a meeting between Harry and his father, King Charles, who still has cancer, seems probable.
He emphasised that any such visit would need to be “private” and “planned beforehand”.
Despite the potential for a future meeting, Richard noted that after this week’s events, where Harry’s spokesperson cited prior commitments as the reason for no meet-up, the King has made it clear that any forthcoming visits should be low-key and organised in advance, steering clear of the media frenzy that has recently ensued.
