Princess Kate and Prince William have “cemented their friendship” with David Beckham, 

despite him and Victoria becoming distant from Prince Harry after they were accused of leaking stories to the press, according to insiders.

The former footballer has been close to the royals for some time, having been invited to both William’s and Harry’s respective weddings, 

but recently it has been William that he has kept up with.

David has worked with the Prince on his Heads Up mental health campaign and presented an award at the Earthshot Prize last year in Boston, Massachusetts.

He was also spotted with son Romeo in the royal box for the England vs Germany match in summer 2020, where Kate and Prince George also joined William to watch the game.

Kate and William were also invited to Brooklyn Beckham’s wedding, which they could not attend but sent the family their well-wishes and a “great deal of joy”.

David has previously said of the royal brothers: “They’re two people who have grown up in the spotlight and the respect that I have for them, and that people in our country and all over the world have for them, is amazing.

“I have a huge amount of respect for William and Harry because of what they’ve been through from a very young age. They’re a credit obviously to their mum and everyone in the Royal Family.”

While David and Victoria were initially friendly with Harry and Meghan Markle, after they started dating in 2016, their friendship reportedly unfortunately soured after a particular incident.

According to reports Victoria extended an arm of friendship to Meghan when she first moved to the UK, even offering her a little black book of her favourite hairdressers and stylists.

However, after stories began to emerge in the media about Victoria helping Meghan out, the Sussexes were apparently suspicious and pointed the finger at the Beckhams.

In a tense phone call Harry supposedly spoke to David to allege they had been leaking stories about him and Meghan, which did not sit well with his old friend.

More recently, Harry and Meghan were not seen at Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s lavish wedding in Florida, nor did Harry attend to see David welcome Lionel Messi to his Inter Miami team.

Sarah Hewson, royal editor at TalkTV, said of the Beckhams’ relationship with the Firm: “I think David and the King might have more in common than perhaps we might have realised.

“For instance, like Charles, David is an avid beekeeper and he gifted the King a jar of honey that he had harvested after the Coronation.

“I certainly think there’s a lot that can be done by them working together. I think that it’s quite an interesting development in terms of David’s history with the Royal Family – and it’s very clear which side the Beckhams are on.”
