Tiger Woods Had An Up And Down Relationship With His Father, Earl

Tiger Woods’ dad was very hands-on with his career early on. However, it wasn’t always for the best, according to Tiger. The golfer revealed that his dad said a lot of things early on, and some of his advice would be taken the wrong way at times. Woods says, “He really said some pretty outlandish things. And I think it was just him being sick. But I took it personal.”

Tiger would go on to reveal alongside USA Today that his parents took on different roles. His mom was more of the enforcer, while his dad tried to motivate him. However, things would take a turn if results weren’t coming as quickly as expected for Earl from his son.

“My dad was always the person who would plant seeds and give me encouragement but also would say things that would fester inside me that wouldn’t come to fruition for a while,” Woods said.

“He was very worldly and deep in his thinking. My mom was the enforcer. My dad may have been in the Special Forces, but I was never afraid of him. My mom’s still here, and I’m still deathly afraid of her. She’s a very tough, tough old lady, very demanding. She was the hand, she was the one, I love her so much, but she was tough.There was zero negotiation.”

In 2006, Tiger’s father passed away and according to the golfer’s half-sister, things changed following Earl’s passing within the family.

Tiger Woods’ Half-Sister Revealed Her Relationship With Tiger Wasn’t The Same After Her Dad’s Passing, And Would Rather Live In A Shack Than Not Talk To Her Half-Brother

During Tiger’s early days in college, half-sister Royce was a major help. According to Essentially Sports, Royce played a major role in helping Tiger behind the scenes. Royce helped Tiger with his meals, and helped to keep his life tidy, like with his laundry. As a token of his appreciation, it is said that Tiger bought his sister a house.

Despite the past closeness between the two, it is said that they drifted off following the passing of Earl Woods in 2006. According to Royce alongside Essentially Sports, Tiger went absent in their lives. His step-sister that she’s rather live in a shack than have a distant relationship with her brother.

“I would live in a shack, literally a shack, if I could have my relationship with my brother back.”

Tiger never responded to the claims, and has chosen to keep his family life quiet instead.

Tiger Woods Used Some His Dad’s Influence With His Son, Charlie

Tiger Woods did take value looking back at his relationship alongside his father, and that was especially true when it came to his success in the world of golf.

Speaking alongside Golf.com, Tiger revealed that his dad’s influence also helped to shape his advice alongside his own son, Charlie.

Woods revealed, “Any parent in any sport I think is being supportive and being encouraging,” he said.

“I have been fortunate enough that my father was into golf and understood sports. He played sports. So from that standpoint, understanding the verbiage and understanding the work ethic of what it takes to play sports at a high level.

And then being a parent, you always want to be the protector and guider of them and teach them skills that they will need in life when you’re not around. And so that’s the most important thing about being a parent.”

Tiger is taking his father’s approach, while also sprinkling in his own words of wisdom.

“I always tell him why we’re doing what we’re doing, so that he can retrace the steps,” Tiger added.

“And when he gets a little off, now he knows what to go back to and understand that, ‘OK, if I hit that shot, it’s that pattern, this is the fix.’ And you’ve got to be able to do that when you playing tournament golf. You have to understand in tournament golf you’ve got to make a switch on the fly and trust it.”
