David Beckham has been spotted among a star stunned enclave of celebrities in the Royal Box on day one of Wimbledon,
in a well-timed appearance for the British stud amid renewed speculation he is angling for knighthood.
Beckham, 49, and his mother Sandra on Monday stole the spotlight with other stars in the prestigious Box
on Centre Court for the first-round match at Wimbledon, albeit no members of the royal family were seen.
The former professional footballer, dressed in a beige suit, pale shirt, and gold tie, looked dapper as he shared a joke and chatted with Sir David Attenborough.
Opera singer Katherine Jenkins and Pointless star Alexander Armstrong were other notable names in the prestigious Box alongside Beckham,
whose appearance comes with claims he is still hoping for knighthood from King Charles.
Beckham’s alleged tax avoidance backed by London-based investment company Ingenious Films saw him continually snubbed from receiving knighthood from the monarch, who left the former soccer legend off his recent 2024 honours list.
Tax avoidance coupled with buying a seven-bedroom house in London’s Holland Park for nearly $40 million and the Beckhams’ spendthrift lifestyle, were reportedly enough for former head of civil service Bob Kerslake and the chairman of the Honors Committee to deny the star from the honour.
Leaked emails from 2017 revealed Beckham’s disappointment at continually being snubbed from receiving a knighthood after earlier earning an OBE from Queen Elizabeth II in 2003.
In those emails, which were sent to a member of his then-publicity team, Beckham took aim at the honours committee and labelled them “unappreciative c***s” for refusing to grant him the knighthood.
He was also allegedly wrote: “I expected nothing less. It’s a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would of [sic] got something like this 10 years ago.”
The former England captain started doing charity work in a bid to get noticed by the honours board.
Beckham’s now convenient appearance in the Royal Box comes with futher attempts to “align” himself with the monarchy as he bargains for a knighthood.
He gave Charles a jar of his own honey at a fashion bash last year and they met again last month at Highgrove Estate in the Cotswolds ahead of Becks becoming an ambassador for The King’s Foundation.
Beckham afterwards said: “It was inspiring to hear from the King about the work of His Majesty’s Foundation during my recent visit to Highgrove Gardens — and compare beekeeping tips.”
He also recently cut ties with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a move royal reporter Sarah Hewson said was strategically aligned with his knighthood dream.
“The Beckhams have decided this brand is just too toxic for them and they might align themselves with the royal family,” royal reporter Sarah Hewson told TalkTV.
“Because ultimately you can’t be on both sides in this trans-Atlantic spa.”
If Beckham does receive knighthood, he will be granted the title of Sir while his wife Victoria will become Lady, and they will join the likes of F1 Superstar Sir Lewis Hamilton and his former coach at Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson.
