Before its Christmas Day release, Sony Pictures shared a behind-the-scenes video from “Little Women,”.

Giving audiences a closer look at the filmmaking process and showcasing the movie’s local roots.

The film, based on Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel, was filmed in 11 local municipalities: Boston, Canton, Concord, Franklin, Groton, Harvard, Ipswich, Lancaster, Lawrence, Stoughton, and Waltham. 

In the video, Sony shows the painstaking efforts of director Greta Gerwig and her crew to keep the area’s spirit in the film.

Including adding layers of fake snow, revamping storefronts, and carefully designing costumes.

“Every bit of it has been crafted with so much authenticity,” a voiceover says. “When you start there, you end up with something spectacular.”

The actresses who play the March sisters — Meg (Emma Watson), Jo (Saoirse Ronan), Amy (Florence Pugh), and Beth (Eliza Scanlen) — praised Gerwig for having a keen ear for dialogue, giving the film a conversational but carefully written script.

“She wrote the lines in the script with these dashes,” Watson said. “When one line starts and another line should come in…”

“…You’re all talking over the top of one another,” Pugh finished.

Ronan also gave credit to Alcott and her writing, which still stands out more than 150 years later.

“It’s a testament to her writing and her spirit that Louisa wrote a world we can all relate to,” Ronan said.
