Emma Watson will be 30 next April. The impending turn from a 2 to a 3 is anything but easy for the actress: The “Harry Potter” child star has been racking her brains over her own life plans this year.
Since her success as Hermione Granger in the first part of the “Harry Potter” saga, Emma Watson’s career has been on the rise.
The Brit has won numerous film awards in recent years and starred in Hollywood productions alongside Tom Hanks, 63, Russel Crowe, 55, and Jennifer Connelly, 48.
The film “Little Women” will be released in the USA in December in which Watson can be seen together with acting icon Meryl Streep , 70, among others.
But while the 29-year-old appears to be a radiant screen goddess and fearless feminist on the outside, internally she is plagued by thoughts that concern many women in their thirties.
In a first outline of the big interview in the December issue of British Vogue, Watson talks about how the topics of marriage, children and buying a house crept into her head.
“If you don’t have a husband, if you don’t have a baby…”
In summary, Watson describes her 2019 as “tough”.
This is because she had “all these ideas” about what her life should be like at that age. “I thought to myself: ‘Why is everyone making such a fuss about turning 30? This is no big deal…” says Watson. When she reached the age of 29, she had to admit to herself that this change from a 2 to a 3 gave rise to quite a lot of thoughts.
She admits: “Oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious.” Suddenly she noticed all these subliminal messages from her environment. «If you haven’t built a house, if you don’t have a husband, if you don’t have a baby, if you’re 30 years old and if you’re not in an incredibly safe, stable place in your career (…). Then there’s just an incredible amount of fear.”
Emma Watson is in a “self-partnership”
In the interview outline, Watson also speaks openly about her relationship status. The actress reveals: “I never believed in this ‘I’m happily single’ game. I thought to myself: ‘It’s just an act.’” So it took her a while to realize that being single can actually feel good. «It took a long time, but I am now very happy to be single. I call it a self-partnership.”
She raves about filming “Little Women”
Since Emma Watson is an outspoken activist and feminist in real life, the role of Meg March in the film adaptation of the novel “Little Women” fits extremely well. So it’s not surprising that the Brit raves so passionately about the filming.
What she loved most was the fact that she worked with actresses who were also activists, as she explains: “The nice thing about working with Laura Dern and Meryl Streep was that all three of us knew each other before we did ‘Little Women.’ We met in activist spaces, and so we had this alliance and solidarity as activists who were part of a particular movement before we ever worked together.”
Flowers for the “Vogue” employees
Watson is just as happy about filming “Little Women” as she is about her cover story in British “Vogue”. She posted a picture of herself laden with bouquets of flowers on her Instagram profile. With this gesture she thanks everyone who was involved. Watson writes about the post: “Thank you to everyone who worked so hard on my cover.”
