Jay-Z made a bold statement at the 64th Grammy Awards, where he and his wife Beyoncé won four awards each, making her the most decorated female artist in Grammy history.

The rapper, who has been vocal about his criticism of the Recording Academy in the past, took the stage to accept the award for Best Rap Song for “Savage Remix” with Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé.
He thanked the fans, the collaborators, and his family, before turning his attention to the Grammys.
“First of all, I want to say congratulations to my wife. You deserve everything and more. You are the greatest of all time, and I’m so proud of you,” he said, as Beyoncé smiled and nodded.

“But I also want to say this: the Grammys have a lot of work to do. They have been disrespecting and ignoring the culture for too long. They have been snubbing and silencing the voices of the people who make this music.

They have been trying to tell us what is good and what is not, what is worthy and what is not. But they don’t know. They don’t understand. They don’t appreciate. They don’t represent.”

He continued, “We don’t need their validation. We don’t need their trophies. We don’t need their recognition. We have our own. We have our fans. We have our community. We have our culture. We have our power. We have our music.
And we have each other. We are the ones who decide what is good and what is not, what is worthy and what is not. We are the ones who make this music. We are the ones who create this culture. We are the ones who represent.
